Merkel Wants Power Over Lockdown and Not Consultations With Federal States

All Stores in Germany Can Reopen Under Certain Conditions

All stores in Germany can reopen under certain conditions. Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the prime ministers of the federal states agreed on Wednesday to lift the existing opening restriction.

Until now, only shops with a floor space of up to 800 square meters were allowed to open. Mouth masks are mandatory in shops.

It is one of the relaxations of the lockdown that Germany decided on Wednesday.

The German government wants to leave the relaxation of measures against the coronavirus mainly to the federal states. This is evident from the proposal that was seen on Wednesday by the DPA news agency.

The federal states are free to determine which measures they will repeal.

When a city detects more than 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days, the lockdown is reintroduced.
