Killing in Actions Against Separatists in Indian Part of Kashmir. At least seventeen people were killed in fighting in the Indian part of Kashmir. According to the authorities, it was one of the most violent days in recent years.

 

In anti-terrorist actions by the police, ten Islamic separatists were killed in the Shopian district. Three soldiers also lost their lives. Yet another rebel was killed in the Anantnag district, a police spokesman said to Town News.

The police action aroused the anger of the inhabitants, who took to the streets to protest. Hundreds of people gathered at the places where the actions took place and threw stones.

The security services, in turn, threw in tear gas and discharged shots to disperse the crowd. As a result, three more people were killed, and about 25 protesters were injured.
