The number of new corona infections detected in Germany in the past 24 hours has increased further.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German equivalent of the RIVM, reported 22,657 new cases on Thursday morning.
Wednesday there were about 16,000, again more than double the number of the day before. In total, the coronavirus has been diagnosed in 2,713,180 people in Germany since the start of the pandemic.
In the past 24 hours, a further 228 people in the Federal Republic have died from the effects of Covid-19. The coronavirus has already claimed at least 75,000 deaths in Germany.
On the night from Monday to Tuesday, Chancellor Angela Merkel and the state prime ministers decided that Germany’s lockdown would be extended until April 18.
The decision to limit the number of social contacts around Easter with measures was withdrawn by Merkel on Wednesday after a storm of criticism.
